Jomtien Breakdancers

From time to time if enjoying the bars and restaurants around Jomtien Sois 1 to 5, Jomtien Complex or Rompho Complex a travelling gang of young Thai Breakdancers are entrepreneurially entertaining the onlookers with their breakdancing skills.

They really are quite talented and worth tipping at the end of their set. Young people who make an effort to entertain through practice and effort deserve to be rewarded if at all possible.

Planet Earth Beach Club - Grand ReOpening

Planet Earth Beach Club on Jomtien Beach Road Soi 15 is probably about as close to, if not better than any Ibiza style pool party you may have experienced. We had an excellent time meeting new people and old friends as well as sampling great music with super hot girls and plenty of great looking guys too. We also noticed a great multicultural mix with just the right amount of first class transsexuals and Russian talent spicing up the scene.

The Planet Earth action starts every Saturday from 1pm to 1am with their Black Butterfly event which was held on the Sunday following the Grand Reopening "Planet Earth White Party" If that sounds confusing just head over to the website or facebook page or make a note of what goes down each Saturday and Sunday:

Sunset by Drone Camera | Ban Amphur

 

 

 

Ban Amphur is just a short drive or cycle ride south of Na-Jomtien. They have a charming beach and good sea food restaurants. Some gentleman has taken a video of sunset at Ban Amphur with a drone controlled camera. It's rather good and we can see Jomtien from time to time as the camera faces North (second photo down).

Jomtien Beach Running

  

Jomtien Beach is home to many expats who can often be seen jogging or running along the beach road before the sun rises fully in the morning. They're taking advantage of the cooler temperature and quieter traffic although it's rarely too busy to run if avoiding peak times at weekends or bank holidays. 

We prefer to run on the beach where the sand acts as a shock absorber and the feeling of running barefoot next to the waves is more fun and relaxing. It takes a little getting used to as the going is a little slower and harder than the road surface but the softness of the sand is most definitely better in the long run (pun not intended) for the knee and ankle joints. When the tide is out or the sand is baked hard it can still be a jarring surface so it's important to run in a softer manner when conditions are like this.

By coincidence a Thai runner Khun Taweewat Waicharoen uploaded his road running experience only days apart from our video. It makes a nice visual contrast to the beach experience. There's also our bike ride along the beach sand we filmed for those who want a more distanced perspective of Jomtien Beach road from the shore.

 

Jomtien Beach Tide Out Panorama

  

The tide is out during the day on Jomtien Beach currently, so we decided to take a panoramic bicycle ride to give a view of Jomtien Beach that is rarely seen. 

The video commences looking at the Southern end of the beach and then rides North before panning out to the horizon and back down South. The major condominium feature is the Reflections Pattaya twin buildings at the beginning.

Unusually good aerial shot of Jomtien Beach, possibly taken by someone parasailing in a speedboat towing a parachute. SAYAMA travel have made an honest promotional video of Jomtien Beach during high season. It's much quieter now but during the peak season it really does look this bright, sunny, hot and popular on Jomtien Beach.

Sattahip Naval Base & U-Tapao Royal Thai Navy Airfield

During the Vietnam War it was crucial for the United States to assist Thailand Militarily and so the Naval Base of Sattahip and Airbase of U-Tapao were built. This is a propaganda movie by the US military so it's a bit tedious in delivery. 

However it's an interesting insight into the scale of construction needed during those times.

Insee Tong ( อินทรีทอง Golden Eagle) Starring Mitr Chaibancha มิตร ชัยบัญชา

Insee Tong (Golden Eagle) was the last movie made by Thai film star Mitr Chaibancha as he died filming the last stunt in the movie (hanging from a helicopter) pictured above, on either Jomtien/Dongtan beach, or Sugar Palm Beach, Sattahip, October 8, 1970. 

There seems to be some confusion about the exact location and use of Dongtan Beach as either Jomtien Beach or Sattahip so we will look into it and update.

There's a shrine to Mitr Chaibancha on a quiet soi parallel to Jomtien Beach road in memory of the well loved actor.

Pattaya & Jomtien Beach 1984 - German Documentary

Seasoned Thailand visitors will not need to understand the German voice over as familiar scenes make it all perfectly plain to see and understand. This fantastic upload is the kind of content that isn't allowed on television any more. It's definitely very saucy but not in an obscene way.

There's some nice rolling in the sand at Jomtien Beach scenes.

Vintage Pattaya - 1971

What a wonderful slice of vintage Pattaya life from 1971. It's a real treat when these rare video uploads give us glimpse into the beauty of the past. 

Pattaya and particularly Jomtien are still fabulous places to live or visit, but it's so easy to see what a jewel it was in the past when US military men started to gather here because of the proximity of the Vietnam war and U-Tapao Air field.

We particularly like the para-sailing scene and the traditional beach huts.

Jomtien Beach Road

After a quiet September and October, Jomtien Beach Road is starting to get busier. The Russian tourists are arriving in volume, and the weekend Thai visitors from Bangkok are taking up the parking spaces off Jomtien Beach Road.

The weather was a little rainy for a couple of weeks in the last month or so during the quiet season, but the sun is once more out again, the businesses are dusting down and cleaning up their store fronts, and Jomtien Beach is back on the list of top destination spots in Thailand. 

If you decide to visit Pattaya or Jomtien. Drive safely, drink responsibly and enjoy your stay.
