Top Jomtien Destinations - Choke-D Bar & Restaurant

Choke-D Bar Restaurant Sports Club is probably the best destination bar and restaurant on South Jomtien Beach or Naa Jomtien as it is sometimes slightly erroneously called. Situated next door to the 7-Eleven closest to the mouth of Soi 16, Choke D is famous as a Windsurfing and Kitesurfing club during the day with both local and international travellers, but during the evening is a more traditional bar and restaurant with some of the best music playing later in the night as Alek the owner is among other renaissance man skills, a talented DJ too.

There are more esoteric sports such as horse jumping and cycling playing silently on the two screens in the bar area, though a new wooden, extended platform deck now extends down to the path and provides some of the most relaxing and reinvigorating dining experiences with fresh air, and waves literally lapping the shore from only yards away.

Choke-D has both open air and sheltered seating in the bar and restaurant. The food served is a combination of Thai recipes and international food such as burgers and fries. The business opens at 2pm each day and is invariably open till 2am or till the last customer returns home.

Choke-D is one of those places that is just as fine to take a book and read in a relaxing atmosphere or from time to time turns into the best impromptu party atmosphere later on in the nights and into the early hours of the morning.

Planet Earth Beach Club - Grand ReOpening

Planet Earth Beach Club on Jomtien Beach Road Soi 15 is probably about as close to, if not better than any Ibiza style pool party you may have experienced. We had an excellent time meeting new people and old friends as well as sampling great music with super hot girls and plenty of great looking guys too. We also noticed a great multicultural mix with just the right amount of first class transsexuals and Russian talent spicing up the scene.

The Planet Earth action starts every Saturday from 1pm to 1am with their Black Butterfly event which was held on the Sunday following the Grand Reopening "Planet Earth White Party" If that sounds confusing just head over to the website or facebook page or make a note of what goes down each Saturday and Sunday:

Jomtien Beach Running

Jomtien Beach is home to many expats who can often be seen jogging or running along the beach road before the sun rises fully in the morning. They're taking advantage of the cooler temperature and quieter traffic although it's rarely too busy to run if avoiding peak times at weekends or bank holidays.

We prefer to run on the beach where the sand acts as a shock absorber and the feeling of running barefoot next to the waves is more fun and relaxing. It takes a little getting used to as the going is a little slower and harder than the road surface but the softness of the sand is most definitely better in the long run (pun not intended) for the knee and ankle joints. When the tide is out or the sand is baked hard it can still be a jarring surface so it's important to run in a softer manner when conditions are like this.

By coincidence a Thai runner Khun Taweewat Waicharoen uploaded his road running experience only days apart from our video. It makes a nice visual contrast to the beach experience. There's also our bike ride along the beach sand we filmed for those who want a more distanced perspective of Jomtien Beach road from the shore.

Collingbourne Auctioneers - Jomtien - Pattaya

If you've never been to Collingbourne Auctioneers on Chaiyapruek Road 2 near Jomtien Beach, Pattaya you're missing out on one of the weekly highlights of the Thailand bargain hunter's calendar.

The two major auctions are held every Wednesday at 4 PM and every Saturday at 11.00 AM

Wednesday's auction is for cars and motorbikes so it's more practical then the weekend, because that's almost like a social event.

There's a lot of fun to be had with unexpected and highly desirable goods falling under the hammer at the Saturday auction where a range of items from antiques to apple phones and apple computers are to be had.

Every Saturday a container of returned goods from a well known high street retailer in the UK is put under the hammer at the 11 AM auction.

The rules and regulations, not to mention VAT stipulations for returned goods in the UK make it cost prohibitive to repackage these brand new and pristine condition items and put them back on the shelf.

This is to our advantage for people in Chonburi as we get to bid on a wide range of retail goods from Disney Toys to Hair Clippers, Black & Decker Power Tools and Beauty equipment plus so much more.

They often go for unbeatable prices that are the lowest on the planet.

Check out John Collingbourne's video interview above on Good Morning Pattaya and see why people love to buy and sell at Collingbourne Auctioneers.

Jomtien Beach Snapshots

It's still low season here on Jomtien Beach so the weekends are mainly full of Thais making a break from Bangkok or Chonburi the province where Jomtien is located. A small trickle of Russians are beginning to take their holidays here and the first smattering of foreign tourists are on the beach in the morning trying to catch the suns rays.

Most of the day the tide is out unlike during in high season when for some reason the water laps close to the beach road.

The weather is currently windy and cool. The fishermen aren't always out in their boats like during the peak periods and so the kiteboarders and windsurfers take advantage of the consistently excellent gales, particularly in the late afternoon to exploit the power of nature on the sea.

Choke-D Windsurfing and Kiteboarding

Tucked down towards the southern end of Jomtien beach road near Soi 16 is Choke-D, one of the most independent-spirited enterprises that like to harness the power of the nautical wind during the day, before settling in for an evening of food, music and refreshment in the evening.

Choke-D Windsurfing and Kiteboarding is an ideal water sports destination for both the beginner and the experienced enthusiast or practitioner.

The costs for Kiteboarding and Windsurfing are published on both their web site and clearly at the location's entrance, so the newcomer can appreciate the competitive pricing in a completely transparent and fixed manner.

One of the greatest attractions of Choke-D is their proximity to Jomtien beach which is less than 15 metres from their business frontage. In addition to this convenient beach-access, the night time atmosphere of the bar and restaurant is one of the best on South Jomtien with a surprisingly sophisticated choice of chill out music ranging from electronica (IDM) to classic soothing vocal tracks.

The restaurant menu always attracts groups of water sporting enthusiasts and passers by, but there's a distinctive feel of a family bonded to the wind and the sea in this delightful destination that is authentic about both sports and relaxation.

The owner Alec pictured below, can be contacted directly by both email or by phone.

Have You Heard of FlyBoarding?

It's not often we see something so new we have to stop and stare like a five year old, but a couple of months ago we came across Flyboarding for the first time.

It looks terrific fun and we've yet to have a go but we ran into the nice Russian guys at Flyboard Pattaya last week, who are setting up Русский - Flyboard Pattaya on Jomtien for people who want to have a go.

Make sure you look beach-good if you have a go.

Everyone stops taking beach Selfies and starts filming whoever is Flyboarding as if they're walking on water or something.
